The United States runs on the US dollar. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, but sales tax is added at the till and is never included in displayed prices, unlike in most of Europe. Tipping roughly 18-20% at restaurants and bars, and 15-20% for taxis and rideshare, is expected throughout the Washington, D.C. area.
